Trump's approval ratings underwater in 39 states

With less than a month until the Nov. 3 midterm elections, President Donald Trump is confronting a political reality that continues to worsen: His approval rating is underwater in most of the country and

hovering near record lows nationally.

A newstate-by-state tracker from Civiqs shows Trump with positive net approval ratings in just 11 states, all of which have backed him in the last three presidential elections. The findings add to a growing body of surveys showing Trump's support slipping as voters prepare to decide which party controls Congress.

According to the tracker, the 11 states that still back the president are Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming, all of which voted for Trump in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential elections.

Wyoming remains Trump's strongest state, with a net approval rating of +16%. The remaining 10 states show positive ratings ranging from +2% to +10%.

Bad polls all around

In recent days, a string of polls has shown little improvement in the president's standing with voters.

The state-by-state numbers reflect a broader trend that has emerged in national surveys heading into the final stretch of the midterm campaign: Trump's approval ratings remain near the lowest levels of either of his two terms.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll released Oct. 5 found that just 32% of Americans approve of Trump's job performance, matching the lowest rating of his political career. The survey also found Trump struggling with Hispanic voters, a key constituency that helped fuel his 2024 victory. Just 24% of Hispanic Americans approved of his performance, the lowest level recorded among the demographic during either of his presidencies.

Thefindings mark a sharp decline from Trump's recent electoral support among Hispanic voters. According to Pew Research Center, 48% backed Trump in the 2024 election, while 36% supported him in 2020.

The Reuters/Ipsos results are consistent with other recent polls. An AP-NORC survey released Oct. 1 found Trump's approval rating at 31%, the lowest level recorded across both of his terms in office. His previous low came during a series of AP-NORC surveys conducted in late 2017 during his first term.

The weakness isn't limited to individual surveys. Polling averages, which combine results from dozens of polls, show Trump consistently underwater with voters nationwide and offer little evidence that his standing is improving as Election Day nears.

What do polling averages show?

While individual polls vary, major polling averages continue to show Trump deeply underwater with voters, with disapproval ratings approaching or exceeding 60% nationally.

RealClearPolitics (Oct. 6): 38.5% approve, 59.4% disapprove New York Times (Oct. 6): 37% approve, 60% disapprove Silver Bulletin (Oct. 6): 37.5% approve, 59.9% disapprove
